Vanja Bosnic : Early Life, Parents and Growing up in Croatia
Vanja was born on July 18, 1982 in Zagreb Croatia. If you don’t know this already, Luka was born in Zadar Croatia, which is just a few hours drive from her home. Coincidence, right?
Her father, Milan Bosnic was a professional basketball player and a businessman. He owned a local restaurant in Kutina. Her mother Vanka Bosnic was an economic graduate but was not working.
Her childhood was far from perfect. When she was just 11, her parents got divorced, and their hardships began. Her mother took up a job at a local school to support Vanja’s education. Vanja’s early childhood was spent at her maternal grandparent’s home in Kutina, CroatiaBut as they say, challenges lay the foundation for strength. And so, Vanja grew up with a sense of responsibility and a maturity beyond her years. Inspired by her economist mother, she went on to graduate from the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Zagreb.
After graduation, she started working at the Mamic Sports Agency, which is a leading sports management firm in Croatia. It was here that destiny played its hand and intertwined her with one of the most celebrated footballers of our time.
Vanja Bosnic and Luka Modric : A Sweet Love Story
During this time, around 2004, Luka was just 18 years old. He was a rising football player in Dinamo Zagreb, a local football club. Croatia is a nation that is mania about the beautiful game, football. So, Luka had his clear road to success and he was working hard for it. As Luka has mentioned in his autobiography “My Game”, he first saw Vanja at a pub near Maksimir Stadium. He was being managed by the same agency where she worked at. He noticed her first and asked around about her. He got to know through his friends about her job, but he was too shy to introduce himself.
He later found out that she was five years older than him. Still, something about her stood out. He says in his biography: “She was young, beautiful, and seemed different from the others. At least I felt it…”
They first had a conversation later when Vanja called Luka to discuss apartment options for him. Luka wasn’t feeling well then and then he asked her to cal her again later in the evening. She agreed, and during this time Luka realized that if he wanted an opportunity with this woman, this was his chance! By the evening, they spoke again, and that conversation lasted three whole hours!
Luka remembers in his autobiography that he liked her energy and her way of thinking. By this time he was already infatuated with her. He asked her out on coffee date soon. Luka remembers that a day of importance for their relationship was December 1, 2004, which was the first time they kissed! Everything was official from this day.
When it was time to pick his apartment, Luka conveniently picked the one which was in the neighborhood of Vanja, in the hopes of staying close to her. Vanja even helped him move. Soon, they started hanging out together and a romance blossomed. They spent hours on coffee dates, walks through apartment viewings, and simply talking like they knew each other forever!
Luka remmebers in the biopgraphy that Vanja loved her when he practically had nothing while she has the older, wider and and more settled. She loved him for the real him, and not for his professional footballer career. And for that, he always feels like the lucky one!
Vanja Bosnic : Marriage with Luka Modric
Even though they hadn’t known each other for long, they knew that they were ready to be with each other forever. There were glaring differences between them. Luka had a budding fame and fortune. Vanja had an established career and degree. But they didn’t let it come between them. Just two months into their relationship, Luka asked Vanja to marry him.While they didn’t immediately tied the knots, they moved in together after six months of dating.
Luka remembers that he was already spending more time at her place than at his own. So when someone broke into his apartment, they felt it was for the best if they lived together. In 2010 May, they said their I Dos in a private ceremony held in Zagrb, followed by a catholic church wedding in 2011.
It is said that Vedran Corluka, who is Modric’s teammates from Tottenham Hotspur and Croatia national team, was the best man at their wedding. Following the wedding, Vanja left the agency she was working for and transitioned into becoming Luka’s personal agent. Since then, she had played an important role in his career, making very important decisions for him, including his career defining move to Real Madrid in 2012. While Luka is a fabulous player, Vanja’s strategy and decision making skills are a powerful force behind Luka’s success.
